My guests for this episode of, "The House P. I.," were Larry Boido and David Scott from Fireside Hearth and Homes, one of the largest gas fireplace companies in the United Sates. Join David, Larry and myself as we discuss the different types of decorative gas appliances for your fireplace including; direct vent gas fireplaces, vented gas logs, and un-vented gas logs. All gas logs and gas fireplaces, just like the other gas appliances in the home, require yearly maintenance and upkeep or they can become potentially health and life threatening if not properly maintained. How does your gas log/fireplace look; is it caked in soot, does the flame burn blue, is it hard to light, do you get an odor when it's burning, is the glass front on the direct vent fireplace cloudy or sooty? These can all be indicators of an improperly functioning gas log which could be allowing combustion gases containing carbon monoxide and other nasty chemicals from combustion into the home. Listen in and learn what to look for with your gas burning fireplace.

This, The House P. I. show was originally broadcast in March, 2009. The show is on a very misunderstood part of home ownership, duct cleaning. In the show my guest; Mr. John Schulte, Executive Director of the National Air Duct Cleaning Association, NADCA, and I tried to clarify a number of questions home owners have on duct cleaning. NADCA is the only duct cleaning organization referenced by EPA. Listen to John and I discuss the ins and outs of proper air duct cleaning and how to protect yourself from unscrupulous contractors. As always thanks for listening
